On Thursday 28 August, between 12:30 and 2:00 pm, an event open to women only will take place at the Harris Hotel in Tarbert. A “Roadshow” organised by the Scottish Women’s Convention (SWC) is an opportunity for local women to talk about the issues impacting their lives and express what support they need to address them.

SWC roadshows are held across Scotland to bring genuine perspectives of Scottish women into national decision-making processes. After each event, a report is created and provided to national and international decision-makers. The documents are available to the public and can be used to challenge insufficient policies or unfair practices.
"The SWC is committed to amplifying the voices of women across Scotland. Roadshow events are a crucial step in ensuring that women's experiences and perspectives are at the forefront of our decision-making processes,” said Agnes Tolmie, SWC Chair.
A small community needs a strong voice to make sure its interests are represented on higher levels of governance. The event offers a rare opportunity for Harris women to be heard on the mainland. Last year, the SWC team visited the Isle of Skye and Kyle of Lochalsh. Reading the thorough report from that meeting, it is obvious we share many issues with our neighbours. It is also clear that Scottish island life, as rewarding as it can be, presents specific difficulties to women. Let’s make sure that both policymakers and funding bodies take them into account.
