Contributions

Please send us your stories and photographs

Dè tha dol? is a community newsletter and we rely on contributions from members of the community. We are lucky to be so well supported by our readers who send in their wonderful stories and pictures and help ensure that our wee publication is vibrant and relevant.

Content Guidelines

We publish material that is about, or connected to the Isle of Harris. Editorial articles (e.g. club updates and reports, local news, transport information etc) are published free of charge, but our space is limited, so we cannot guarantee publication, and we may edit for space and style.

As a guideline, we recommend a maximum 350 words per article. A word document, with as little formatting as possible (eg not too many bullet points!) is easiest for us to handle. Text in the body of an email is fine too. Please send up to two photos as attachments to the email, preferably not inserted into a document.

The newsletter is published fortnightly on a Wednesday. Please send your contributions by the previous Friday lunchtime (dates for the next issue are always on the cover) . We try really hard to include all relevant submissions, but space and time are tight and we may not always manage everything.

If you have a story/event that you would like us to cover, but would prefer not to write it up yourself, that's fine too - just send us a quick email with the main details and we will do the rest (time permitting).

Advertising

If you want to guarantee design and wording, then a paid-for advert is the best option. Please contact us for our (very reasonable) rates. One of the benefits of Harris Voluntary Service membership (for local organisations) is reduced advertising in Dè tha dol?

Pictures

We are always on the look out for photographs, whether of local events, beautiful Harris landscapes or natural phenomenon. Please email these (preferably as .jpg) or send via Facebook.

As a charity, we are not able to pay contributors for words or pictures. We commit to proper crediting and to only use your work as permitted.

We do not charge for family notices (such as birth, deaths and marriages).

Please email any submissions to dethadol@harrisvs.org.uk
