The cashpoint in Tarbert is operational again, following the completion of refurbishment works to its secure housing.
NCR Atleos, which operates the machine in the car park by the Essence of Harris shop, has confirmed that it has been tested, re-cashed and returned to service.
Dè tha dol? first reported that the ATM was out of service in October, when residents expressed concern that a lack of out-of-hours access to cash could have an impact on local businesses and community fundraising events, particularly at the community centre.
The ATM’s housing has now been fully refurbished to ensure that it can operate reliably in a challenging coastal environment.
Neil Martin, Managing Director for NCR Atleos, said, “In remote island communities, it’s essential that access to cash infrastructure is reliable and built to last. Rather than applying a short-term fix, we invested in fully refurbishing the housing and carrying out comprehensive checks so the ATM can be depended on by the community throughout the year.”
Councillor Paul Finnegan, who has campaigned for improved access to cash on Harris, said: “It makes a real difference to see an organisation like NCR Atleos investing in the community and restoring services. On behalf of the Harris community, I’d like to thank them for the commitment they’ve shown in getting the Tarbert ATM fully operational again. Reliable access to cash is still essential here, and this investment will be genuinely valued by local people and businesses.”
