A giant red squirrel has taken up residence in the picnic area next to Tarbert Post Office - and while the iconic Scottish species may not be a frequent visitor to Harris in its live form, it is hoped that this sculpture of one will be a fixture of the landscape for many years to come.

The heart-shaped work of art was installed in its new home by Tarbert in Bloom, who received it as a dona-tion from Norpower. It was initially part of the Highland Hospice Art Trail and now stands on a white plinth

overlooking East Loch Tarbert.

One side of the sculpture features the squirrel and a tree, with a purple

background, the other side is a blue forest scene. As well as the sculpture, Tarbert in Bloom received a £1000 donation from Norpower which they were able to spend on tools including a portable watering system, which will be used to keep hanging baskets and wild flower displays fresh, and a pow-er washer to help with their efforts to keep the village clean.

“The artwork is absolutely stunning. We think it is a beautiful addition to the area,” said volunteer Tania MacLeod
