The new playpark for Leverburgh is a step closer to opening its gates, after a busy few weeks of fundraising.

The parents behind the appeal say they have been blown away by the generosity of the response.

“We'd like to say a huge thank you to all who have donated. We are so close to our target and realising our goal of a safe and inclusive playpark in south Harris.”

A total of £24,135 has been received, leaving just £5,865 left to raise of the £30,000 target needed for the full plan for the park to go ahead this Spring (correct at time of printing 25/2/26).

Contributions have come from over 50 individuals and businesses, as well as a café held at Café 34 at South Harris Free Church last Thursday, which raised £1540.

The council have committed to begin Phase One of the park, including the installation of a multi-play unit with climbing frames and an inclusive roundabout, funded by the Scottish Government’s Playpark Renewal Fund.

Parents now hope that they can raise enough for Phase Two, which will include a wheel-chair-accessible trampoline and a log cabin, to go ahead at the same time.
