The gym at Harris Sports Centre is set to be upgraded, with new equipment arriving later this spring. The redesigned space will replace the current setup which has been in place for several years.

A recent post on the Harris Sports Centre Facebook page offered hints about what the new gym will include: “We're delighted to announce our new partnership with Origin Fitness, who will be delivering a state-of-the-art gym,” it said. “We don't want to give everything away yet, but lots of very exciting things are coming and we can't wait until you all get to start enjoying the new Gym!”

New equipment will include plate-loaded and pin select resistance machines, a squat rack, Olympic bar and plates, heavier free-weights, cardio machines and more. It is expected to arrive in May, when work will be needed to install it and facilities may be closed briefly to allow this to take place.

The news has been well received by local gym users. One commented “Can’t wait,” and another added: “This is amazing. So excited!”

The new-look gym is part of wider improvement plans across Comhairle nan Eilean Siar sports facilities, which will also see renovations at Lewis Sports Centre in Stornoway.
