A Facebook post requesting a little extra romance for the residents of Harris House, has gained support from international readers, a well-known author and a celebrated landscape artist. With their help, the Valentine’s Day post bag at the Tarbert care home is already bulging.

Last week, a staff member posted a request for Valentines cards and messages to be sent to residents. It read: “At Harris House there is a wee valentines themed afternoon imminent. We have a postbox ready and would love it if you guys would send the residents some Valentine cards, home-made or shop bought. We don’t mind. Please consider sending us one.”
The social media post was soon being shared widely, with readers from as far afield as California adding photos of the home-made cards they planned to post. Momentum grew when Hope Blamire, owner of the Blamire at Harris Art shop on Main Street in Tarbert shared the post, adding: “Let’s bring some LOVE and JOY to the residents of HARRIS HOUSE CARE HOME.”
Freya North, a best-selling author (several of whose books are set on the island) also added her support. “For those of you who’ve loved Little Wing and Christmas at Flora’s House…can you help? I think it’s such a lovely idea!”
If you would like to help make this Valentine’s Day extra special for our local home’s lovely residents, please post your card (marked Valentine’s Tea) to Harris House, Leverhulme Road, Tarbert, HS3 3DD.
