A recent Care Inspectorate visit to Leverburgh Care Home has resulted in a positive report, with ‘good’ scores across all the four areas evaluated and praise for staff and management.

The unannounced visit took place in March and involved conversations with staff, residents and their families, observation of practice and daily life and document reviews. It assessed well-being, leadership, the staff team and care planning.

The report, which was published in May on the Care Inspectorate website, noted that “People were receiving kind and compassionate care.” It observed that “spiritual needs were met and respected as part of daily life” and “Staff knew the people they supported very well, which meant people felt safe.”

There was also praise for the relationship between staff and residents. “Leverburgh has a very homely atmosphere, with staff and people engaging with each other in both Gaelic and English. This reflected the local community connections which was important to people,” it said.

Previous inspections of the home had identified areas for improve-ment, which the report confirmed are now being met. It noted: “Significant improvements have been made in how the service is managed…We observed a manage-ment team who were motivated and dedicated to the continued improvement of Leverburgh.”

Manager Isabel Campbell thanked all those who have contributed to this achievement.

“I want to thank the staff team who have really pulled together, as well as the families and residents them-selves, for being behind us. We have had recruitment issues in the past, but now we are in a better place with more carers. We are thankful that our staff are so loyal and committed,” she said.
