Veteran vehicle to visit Harris delivering mental health message

A restored ex-military staff car is heading to Harris next month, with a team of Royal Navy and Royal Marine veterans, as part of a project raising awareness of mental health challenges such as PTSD, isolation and suicide.

The 1936 Morris 8, known as ‘Philip’ will travel from Barra, through the Uists and on to Harris, Lewis and Skye, where its driver and passengers will meet local people, veterans, community groups and organisations and encourage conversations about wellbeing and sup-port in rural communities.

They will be joined by Mack, a Scottish terrier who is ambassador for the veteran’s charity Bravehound.

The journey is part of SUNRAY TWOSIX – an initiative supported by Scotland’s Veterans Wellbeing Alliance and the Warhead Project UK. It will also be documented through film and photography.

Stops include a Brew and Chat event at the Clan MacQuarrie Community Centre, Lewis on Monday 8th June, from midday. The organisers are keen to hear from any community member, group or business on Harris who would like to meet for a chat and find out more about their mission – or just come along for a photo with Philip the car and Mack the dog.

Look out for Philip on the visit to Harris between June 9 and June 11. Contact: info@warheadproject.uk
