The programme for this summer’s Outer Hebrides Wildlife Festival is out now, with over 80 community-run events celebrating the wildlife, landscapes, and cultural heritage of the Outer Hebrides.
The main week of this year’s Festival will run from the 20 to the 27 of June, and a Fringe Festival will continue until the end of July. This year’s programme features free and paid-for events, both in Harris and further afield.
Harris events include a Harris hills sunset hike, hosted by the North Harris Trust (on Mon, 22 June), a Wild Harris snor-kelling experience (various dates) a Wild Ceilidh (also North Harris Trust) on June 26 and a film screening of Ocean, presented by David Attenborough, at Tarbert Library (on Thurs, 25 June).
For children there will be a Moths and Butterflies-themed Creative Workshop, run by an Lanntair at Tarbert Community Centre on July 7 and a wildlife-themed craft and storytelling session at which local author Louisa MacDougall will share stories from her new book, the Ugly Puffling, on July 9.
The Scaladale Centre will be hosting outdoor adventures in-cluding kayaking and coasteering.
The Festival is coordinated by conservation programme, Species on the Edge – which is funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund – in collaboration with local community groups, businesses and conservation charities. It aims to give locals and visitors alike the opportunity to ex-plore and connect with the wild-life, landscapes and cultural heritage of these islands in new ways.
