Harris stick maker David Broadbent had his talents recognised at the Royal Highland Show last month, where he won the Mrs Alister Campbell Memorial trophy for his recent creations.

The prize was awarded for the best set of four sticks, comprising of a wooden-handle shepherd’s crook, horn-handle shepherd’s crook, wooden-handle walking stick and a horn-handle walking stick.

David has been competing in the Royal Highland Show for forty years and has experienced considerable success at the event and other Agricultural Shows, but this is the first time he has won this honour.

As well as making sticks for the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay and demonstrating the art of stick-making to the Princess Royal, David has donated his work to many local charity events and auctions, who have raised considerable funds through his generosity.

David says that this year’s Highland Show is the last one he will enter as a competitor. However, his travels continue as his works of art are entered in this summer’s Great Yorkshire and Royal Welsh Shows.
